The Estonian Tax Board plans to look into wages paid by thousands of Estonian construction companies, focusing in particular on salary earned by managing directors of these companies, writes Äripäev.

Kaido Lemendik, head of the auditing department of the tax board, says that cases where managing directors of construction companies officially earn 371 euros a month deserve the tax authority’s full attention because there cannot be such a big gap in executive pay within one economic sector.

According to the information available to the tax board, there are 2,285 construction companies whose managing directors earn only 371 euros a month.

Most of these companies have between one and three employees.

According to Lemendik, about a quarter of all construction companies in Estonia are paying too little to their managing directors.
