Study: Estonia needs two or three times more IT specialists

According to a study of the Development Fund, Estonia should have at least two to three times more IT specialists than at present, writes Äripäev.

The report says that there are around 7,000 IT specialists working in Estonia today, but it is not enough and has started to restrict the growth of smart and well-paid jobs and transfer of international centres into Estonia.

A representative of Elion, one of Estonia’s largest employers in the telecommunications sector, said that there was an acute lack for network architects and specialists.

„It may take up to six  months to hire from outside the group a specialist who not only knows his or her specialisation, but has a broader view on the organizational operations and the impact of IT solutions on business,” said Elion’s head of HR department.
