In addition to Turkish Airlines, also several other airlines are considering plans to open Tallinn routes.

Although media speculations that Air Berlin was opening a Tallinn-Berlin route has turned out to be premature, representatives of the airline  said that they have not taken the plan off their plans.

„We are currently analysing all three Baltic states,” said Stefan Demuth, representative of Air Berlin.

He admitted, however, that the airline had already held negotiations with airBaltic in Riga and was considering Riga because of the large market.

Also Spanish airline Iberia has decided in favour of Riga.

„We believe that there is more potential. The market is bigger and there are more passengers. Geographically, it is in the middle of Baltic countries,” said Lucia Ambroj, representative of Iberia, adding that the company was considering Tallinn, but not before 2013.

Tallinn Airport itself has been looking for an airline that would bring passengers from Asia, mainly China, to Tallinn so that Estonian Air could fly them on to Europe.

This is not an easy task because the Finnish national carrier Finnair is successfully implementing such a system itself.
